A lot has been said about Lil Wayne and his appreciation for the skateboarding culture. But giving back to the community through his passion is something only a few would have expected. As AP is pointing out, Weezy is returning to New Orleans, his hometown, for the opening of the Trukstop skate park in the Lower 9th Ward, which has been one of the most devastated sections of the city during Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
The park will be a gathering place where residents have been slow to return since Katrina hit seven years ago. Flooding pushed homes off their foundations, and many blocks remain vacant and overgrown by weeds.
Trukstop occupies a pre-Katrina building that survived the flooding. It was constructed using recycled materials and will be run using solar energy.
