Ahead of its debut early next year, Danish label Mismo presents a look at its upcoming collection of bags for Spring/Summer 2013. Offering functional designs with understated elegance, the latest pieces include various tote silhouettes and feature premium leather and metal detailing alongside a range of materials including nylon and heavy-duty canvas, uniquely patterned nubuck and denim-like fabric. Below, designer and Mismo co-founder Adam Alexander Bach shares some thoughts on the brand’s most recent designs – each of which is due to hit an array of storefronts and online retailers in the first few months of the year ahead.
Adam, with SS13 there’s a pop of springtime color and some really interesting new patterns and materials at play this time. What’s different about this collection in particular?
SS13 is an extension of some of the decisions we made for AW12. The whole Fabric collection has been taken a step further this season, because we really dug deep to come up with new, interesting materials and textures across the different sub-collections, some of which we’ve never used before. You’re talking the floral nubuck leather, and the “denim” canvas, right?
Yea, exactly. Both of these materials are only used on a few select bags, we wanted to keep it contained in that way. The floral pattern is actually a nubuck leather with a flower print embossed onto it, and it’s hand dyed and hand brushed to give it a really nice weathered vintage feel. The “denim” fabric is special to me, because denim is something that’s been on our minds for awhile, actually. So we spoke to Limonta and they sent us a special fabric that they’d developed from last season, and it turned out to be fantastic. We were looking for some denim-inspired fabrics, and they sent over a swatch of this perfect faded blue one that we’re using. Like the floral nubuck, it’s hand brushed to give it that nice worn in feel. We love it.
