Paying homage to his roots and hustle, “Marcy to Barclays” documents Jay-Z’s meteoric rise from some of the meanest housing projects in New York to part-owner of the Brooklyn Nets who now make their home in the Barclays Center. Directed by Anthony Mandler, the black-and-white bit of filmmaking makes cohesive ties between the entertainer’s time spent in the streets, on stage, and as one of the key figures behind Rocawear. Presented as both a thought-piece and slice of advertisement, it’s clear that Brooklyn has Jay-Z’s heart.
