Unveiling a collection “directed by Issey Miyake and the Reality Lab,” the Issey Miyake show at French Fashion Week reflected the creative fingerprints of Issey freshly back in the driver’s seat after an 18-year absence from menswear. The collection was largely inspired by washi, a paper material that has long been used by the Japanese to make clothing. Subsequently, fashion aside the invites were also part of the storyline as an ode to this versatile and “humble” fabric. After the influence of Miyake and company, the washi material earned waterproof properties for an added element of functionality.
