After seeing the new trailer for the film adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s 1925 literary classic The Great Gatsby, it’s already hard to imagine the period film being directed by anyone other than Baz Luhrmann. The story follows a fledgling writer chasing the American dream to New York City in the early 1920s, and is drawn into Gatsby’s world where “the parties were bigger, the morals were looser, and the liquor was cheaper,” to write his own story of love, dreams and tragedy. Leonardo DiCaprio plays the titular mysterious Jay Gatsby, with Carey Mulligan, Tobey Maguire and Joel Edgerton also starring. We’ll have to wait until this December when the film lands in theaters to know whether or not Fitzgerald will be rolling in his grave. And before you ask, the trailer is scored by Jack White’s brilliant cover of “Love is Blindness,” originally performed by U2.
