Yes, you read that title right. To celebrate their 50th anniversary, The Beach Boys aren’t just going on a lengthy U.S. and world tour. They’re releasing a brand new album, too. Considering it’s been 40-plus years since some of their biggest hits and over 15 years since the band’s last full-length LP—Stars and Stripes Vol. 1 hit stores in 1996—you might be a little skeptical as to what the new music will sound like. But fear not. To let fans in on what they’ve been creating, Brian Wilson, Mike Love, Al Jardine, Bruce Johnston and David Marks have brought forth a behind-the-scenes video for their brand new single, “That’s Why God Made The Radio,” which features a bit of the song itself. And sure enough, it sounds like a Beach Boys song. In addition, we now know that the legendary surf pop group’s as-of-yet-untitled 30th album will be released on June 5. Press play on the clip above to hear a preview of the track, read a quote from Johnston below about the album, and scroll further on down to see if the Boys will be coming to a town near you.
“It’s all brand new,” Johnston tells Billboard. “There’s a lot of what you’d hope to hear from Brian (Wilson) on there. It’s not a quilt or a pot luck dinner; it’s not like, ‘OK, everybody show up with your songs.’ It’s not one of those kind of albums. There’s a lot of Brian in there, and Mike (Love). It’s just nice to know there is a Mike Love and a Brian Wilson still around to write together.”
