When it was first introduced to the world in 1945, the Rolex Datejust was the first wristwatch with a date function. The Datejust was also the basis on which the Explorer, Submariner and Sea Dweller watches were built. It has long since been considered the ‘queen’ of the Rolex family, and a symbol of the brand’s place in elegance, luxury and horological history. For 2012, the subtly updated Datejust II gets a 41mm case crafted from pure 904L steel atop a smooth polished steel bezel. The steel Oyster bracelet also sees a few revisions, getting Easylink extension system, for ease of fit adjustment. The watch is powered by Rolex’s superlative in-house mechanical self-winding movement. And of course, that history-making date wheel is perfectly magnified under Rolex’s signature crystal cyclops.
