It is widely known that Arcade Fire is not your average band to say the least. Cementing this status, the Canadian alternative rock outfit has now announced plans to give a lecture on Haiti’s current socio-economic crisis. As Rolling Stone points out, frontman Win Butler, Regine Chassagne, Will Butler, and Marika Anthony-Shaw will attend the University of Texas in Austin on March 19 to discuss the need for healthcare reform and First World aid. They will recount their volunteer efforts in the region and discuss the nation’s need for healthcare reform and First World aid and also encourage students to get involved in ongoing relief efforts following the devastating earthquake there in 2010. Thus far, the band has raised more than $1 million through ticket sales for the earthquake-ravaged country, where Chassagne was born.
