The Barber’s trade has come a long way since ancient times when its responsibilities not only pertained to hair but also to medical procedures. Modern day Barber Jason Macaraig is known to most as JMac and the official barber of Platinum Recording artist Drake. Macaraig has been a veteran of his craft for over 15 years. Fatigued with bad haircuts from his mother, he began honing his skills in grade school cutting his brothers’ and friends’ hair. Since then, Jason developed his own personal style and built relationships, which eventually propelled him to his professional lifestyle. Returning to his hometown of Toronto from a busy touring schedule, JMac shares with us an essentials as clean as his cuts. His tools of trade have gazed the scalps of entertainers and hip-hop’s finest; his clientele list includes Kevin Hart, Mark S. Doss, Large Professor, French Montana, Nas, Mack Maine, Lil Twist, J. Cole, Trey Songz and Kendrick Lamar. Some of these instruments have been an extension of JMac’s hands for as long as eight years. These are his essential tools that work for all the different types, textures and styles of hair. He ensures they continue to work by repairing and maintain them as part of his understanding of the craft from top to bottom. Keep up with JMac on Twitter and check out his work at getfaded.ca.
