Mackintosh London Store: A Guided Tour with Masamichi Katayama

Presented here is a short video tour of Mackintosh’s new London store led by none other than Masamichi Katayama, the visionary founder of design firm Wonderwall. A delicate project, Mackintosh’s store obviously couldn’t be as fashion-forward or contemporary as BAPE, for example, since the British brand has a rich and storied heritage to preserve. On the other hand, however, to make the store feel too stodgy wouldn’t attract any new, young customers. Thus, Katayama had to strike a balance between new and old while designing Mackintosh’s London store – a feat he accomplished quite well. Check out commentary from the man himself above.
