Avant-garde is one way to describe this latest high-top sneaker from Austrian designer Carol Christian Poell. Designing from his home base in Milan, where he founded his own brand in 1996, Carol Christian Poell has garnered attention in the past due to his use of rather unconventional materials including human hair, bodyplast, metal chain-stitch and blood-dyed leather in his various collections. Despite a tinge of macabre eccentricity, Poell’s designs have attracted a cult following over the years. New from the designer’s annual release comes this “Object Dyed, No Seam Drip-Rubber” sneaker, handcrafted out of calf and kangaroo, dyed white and dipped in latex. Most noticeable about the distressed kicks is their bizarre sole, which was treated with a “Drip-Rubber” application in order to achieve the asymmetrical stalactites of material hanging off of the high-tops. Not for the faint of heart, Carol Christian Poell’s latest footwear offering is available now through ink.
