If a traditional runway presentation is what some were expecting from Band of Outsiders this season, then they were certainly in for a pleasant surprise when Los Angeles-based designer Scott Sternberg presented a full-fledged theatrical performance complete with music and live dancers. Known for his use of wild sets at shows in past seasons (who can forget those models he hung from a chandelier), the former talent agent bought a piece of Hollywood to Florence last night, setting up against an elaborate backdrop at the historic city’s famed Maniffatura Tabacchi (“Tobacco Factory”). Even more exciting than the show itself, however, were the clothes. Sternberg’s retro-inspired wares ranged from white, slim-fitting pants and shorts to nautical striped shirts, cozy knit hoodies and a range of colorful nylon outerwear. Not to be forgotten, however, was the footwear (as previewed here) which consisted of pastel-colored boat shoes that meshed wonderfully with the preppy garments.
