Before his untimely death, Steve Prefontaine was arguably the best long distance runner of his day. A student of the sport under coach and co-founder of Nike, Bill Bowerman, Steve was a lab rat for Bowerman’s innovative footwear designs. Paying homage to one of its original endorsers, Nike will release in early 2012 the Pre Montreal Racer Vintage, baring the Oregon runners name, who was training for the Montreal Olympics before a tragic car accident took his life. This model receives the Nike Vintage treatment, complete with a dirty yellow sole and fading suede/nylon upper. Releasing in two colorways, blue/red and University of Oregon green/yellow, the Pre Montreal Racer Vintage is available for pre-order at atmos.
