Rangers - Out Past Curfew

After releasing a string of cassette albums – including “Low Cut Fades” on Not Not Fun last year – Rangers also known as Joe Knight has released his excellent debut LP Suburban Tours. Critics refer to his sound as ‘elevator psyche’ and ‘mirrorball funknagogic pop’ and this is not necessarily a bad thing once you have enjoyed his music. On his new offering Rangers presents eleven pop records filled with yet colorful yet nostalgic and melancholic themes. Visitation Roles put it probably best saying, ‘his music reflects a parallel fixation with the tape reel as a cutting board for the psychic trappings of middle class American youth”. With three different sets of images director Zahid Jiwa intends to capture the basic elements of Rangers’ craft in the new video for his single “Out Past Curfew”. Mission accomplished. “Suburban Tours” is out now on Olde English Spelling Bee.
