BLOC28 has added a new dimension to the Disney franchise as it allows for unconventional artists to offer their own artistic insights on the world of Disney. In this recent exhibition in Hong Kong, contributing artists such as Slick, Greg “Craola” Simkins, Mear One, David P. Flores and Steven Daily provided artwork while a look into the latest BLOC28 collection was also on hand.

As you pass a light through a glass prism, the light becomes neatly broken up into the classic grade 9 science concept “ROY G. BIV”. With this in mind, this concept forms the basis of the Prism collection, a joint venture between Staple Design’s retail outlet Reed Space and Japanese brand Head Porter. The collection features an orange travel organizer, yellow gadget pouch, green note case, red pen case, violet PC day pack, blue 13-inch PC case and indigo 15-inch PC case.

The bright lights and sunny beaches of Miami are allegedly behind this latest pack of sneakers from the Nike. Many of the models feature warm fluorescent gradients which are kept minimal mostly as an accent seen on the synthetic parts. Models include the usual suspects such as the Air Max 90, Air Max 1, Air Max BW and Shox NZ and are slated for a Euro exclusive starting June 9th.

From Guy Ritchie’s stunningly produced Take It To The Next Level commercial for Nike, comes adidas’ “Dream Big” ad for the upcoming Euro 2008 Championships. The commercial follows adidas’ core of star studded endorsed players as they hit some of the world’s smallest soccer powers. Three different locations include San Marino, Isles of Sicily (UK) and Andorra. Along each locale, the theme of “Dream Big” resonates deeply with the young up and coming players as the likes of David Beckham, Steven Gerrard, Patrick Vieira, Michael Ballack, Lionel Messi, David Villa, Lukas Podolski and Arjen Robben all feature.

A follow up release from the Tommie Smith x Puma Suede collection are a two-pack of sneakers based on another Puma classic, the Clyde. The shoes revolve around sprinter Tommie Smith’s achievements including a 200 m time of 19.83 seconds. Both styles reference the location, the 1968 Olympics.

Who really knows what to make of the house, electro pop, new wave revival creeping into the mainstream? Perhaps it is the boredom of the current pop atmosphere that causes listeners to seek out music that is a bit different. What is certain is that in the coming months it is almost certain that there will be backlash, over analyzed blog posts (like these) and over exposure. But while critics attempt to rationalize it all, bands such as the Australian duo Cut Copy spearhead the movement by bringing a fresh yet vintage sound for the listeners to enjoy. Their new album “In Ghost Colours” is a lighter hearted celebratory affair then previous efforts combining elements of pulse pounding arena and indie rock with driving synthesizers that make it danceable yet lyrically assessable for the listener.
The first single “Lights & Music” is up-tempo and borderline disco. The sound harkens to a harder edged New Order or Depeche Mode with a more guitar centric sound. The video directed by Krozm, is relatively simple and straight forward with flashing lights and 80s cheap effects but matches perfectly with the actual feel of the music. The song has already become a critical and dance floor favorite and is sure to become the soundtrack to the summer.
For popular Japanese brand Mizuno built a strong base in the 1980s with their vintage model the Wave. Resurrected for 2008, the Wave TSZ follows a vintage shape with a bright colorway. The Wave aspect is maintained as seen by the midsole design. Available now at Tokishirazu.
