UCS 2008 Fall/Winter Collection

An early look into Japanese MMA fighter and Nike sponsored Caol Uno’s 2008 fall/winter collection for UCS has been provided via Cueve. The aesthetics and stylings portrayed by UCS is a marked difference relative to the brands of his American MMA inspired counterparts which focus largely on logo driven designs, creating a visible difference in approach to their lines. For UCS, the collection is diverse including technical jackets, denim and hats produced in association with hat brand CA4LA. The items won’t release until November, however they are currently available for pre-order.

Hiroshi Fujiwara in Nike Campus

Hiroshi Fujiwara in Nike Campus

Hiroshi Fujiwara, the godfather of streetwear, has just recently visited the Nike Campus in Beaverton, Oregon, for the Nike Beijing 08 Innovation Summit. The event showcased upcoming releases including the much anticipated Hyperdunks. While there, it seems that HF had a lot of fun touring the campus and rock climbing, an activity that probably only Nike has at their headquarters. But of course he wouldn’t go without meeting with Nike President and CEO, Mark Parker, discussing unrevealed shoes. It seems that HF was also able to do an interview with Nike’s Global Creative Director, Richard Clarke. Check out all the pictures and the interview at Honeyee.

Since its introduction to the sneaker world in 2001, Clae has been at the forefront of their rightfully dubbed “athleisure” category, redefining the industry the way fusion cuisine did for the restaurant business earlier this century. Having revamped their collection in 2007, Clae seems to have finally baited and hooked the sneaker masses. With Reed Space and other retail gems carrying its line a bright future is in store for this California-based trendsetter. This year’s summer collection is simple in design with strong color schemes that should appeal to an older, more refined crowd. Check back in July with oki-ni to get yours. clae-summer-2008

Follow the Rules: Varonique Nichanian of Hermes

Emerging from mega fashion house Hermès, menswear designer Varonique Nichanian is the latest to participate in Details’ Follow the Rules. Her fashion tips are mostly male relevant with some highlights including the following: 1. The right proportion and fit are a matter of centimeters—millimeters, really. When you choose clothes that are perfect for you, you feel strong, comfortable, and more self-confident. 2. Style is a question of charm, not nationality. It’s not true that French men have more allure or style than American men. It’s just that they dress with more personality. They don’t follow dress codes, and sometimes they mix things in a way they shouldn’t. Like how Serge Gainsbourg dressed, with his reptile shoes with jeans and blazer and white shirt—that’s charm. 6. You should have one watch for the weekend, one for the week, one for suits, one for sport. I love watches. Watches are for men what perfume is for women. They are very personal, and you can wear them according to your mood.

The overall theme backed by the upcoming European Championships. Each model is not without its fair share of innovations including updated cushioning, stain resistant laces and materials.
