Back in 1946, the Newark Eagles were at the top of Negro League Baseball with their World Series victory over the Kansas City Monarchs in a historic 7 game series. Although the team would only be around for another two years, they surely did make history having produced the first African-American player in the American League side of Major League Baseball, Larry Doby. 62 years after their championship win, Nike is honoring the Newark Eagles in another pack of Negro League inspired sneakers. This version of the Air Max Light features the Eagle’s logo on both the heel and insole as well as traditional Newark colors with embossed leather and gradient panels. These shoes are now available at Size?.

Vans will be releasing a legends pack honoring Bay Area native and Powell Peralta pro Steve Caballero. The pack will consist of three classic models: a SK8 Hi, Era, and what would a pack be without Steve’s signature shoe, the Half Cab. Seeing as Caballero was born in the year of the dragon, Vans will use a graphic from one of his many Powell-Peralta dragon boards for the shoe pack, featuring traditional suede and canvas. Release is set for October 2008.
