Comme des Garcons x H&M

Rei Kawakubo, founder and head designer of Japanese label, Comme des Garcons, will be the guest designer for H&M’s 2008 autumn collection. The collection will include everything from men’s, women’s, and children’s clothing to accessories and even an exclusive unisex fragrance. The collection is set to launch in early November at the opening of H&M’s second store in Tokyo, Japan, and it will hit other H&M stores a few days later. Ever since Comme des Garcons’ debut in 1981, Rei Kawakubo has been known for challenging the norms with her use of distressed fabrics, unfinished edges, asymmetrical cuts, and monochromatic tones. The collaboration will let H&M break into the Japanese/Harajuku market and compete with the dominating Uniqlo, both known for fashionable yet affordable clothing. This collaboration will definitely be worth waiting for since it will be Comme des Garcon design at H&M prices. Source: H&M

COMME DES GARÇONS IN COLLABORATION WITH H&M THIS AUTUMN

Comme des Garçons’ founder and head designer Rei Kawakubo will create this autumn’s guest designer collection at H&M. Rei Kawakubo, famous and admired for her creativity and artistry, will design a women’s and a men’s collection, with some pieces for children too. Accessories and an exclusive unisex fragrance will also be included in the collection.

“I have always been interested in the balance between creation and business. It is a dilemma, although for me creation has always been the first priority. It is a fascinating challenge to work with H&M since it is a chance to take the dilemma to its extreme, and try to solve it”, says Rei Kawakubo, Comme des Garçons.

“Rei Kawakubo has been at the top of our wish list for a long time and we are thrilled that she has chosen to collaborate with us. We have tremendous respect for Kawakubo’s fashion philosophy of questioning fashion’s ingrained patterns, and admire her artistic approach to design. We are particularly excited that the collection will be launched in Japan, Kawakubo’s native country, at the same time as the launch of our new store there”, explains Margareta van den Bosch, creative advisor, H&M.

The world launch of the collection will be at the opening of H&M’s second store in Tokyo, Japan, in the beginning of November. Launch date for other H&M markets will be a few days later.

Comme des Garçons Ltd was established in 1973 as a company based on creativity and originality. Always pushing the frontiers of design and never accepting the status quo, Comme des Garcons now produces 14 different brands and employs nearly 700 people, with shops in over 25 countries.

H & M Hennes & Mauritz AB (H&M) was established in Sweden in 1947 and is synonymous with affordable as well as up-to-date and high quality fashion. H&M has a wide product range that is divided into a number of different concepts for women, men, teenagers, children and cosmetics. Heavy Interview with Freshjive Founder Rick Klotz

Rick Klotz, creator of Freshjive, recently did a short interview on heavy.com. He talks about how he got started in the business and some short advice on starting your own label. With his years and years of experience, he gives a very pragmatic insight that people don’t really care about what statements you’re trying to make, as long as your clothes sell. After all, making clothes is still a business. Check out the interview at Freshjive.

Moncler 2008 Spring/Summer Collection

Moncler 2008 Spring/Summer Collection

Moncler never ceases to amaze. Their 2008 Fall/Winter is one of the best to date, and anyone that copped the Junya collabo collection from this winter is a king. Here are some pieces we are less used to seeing from Moncler, bachelor ski instructors still need to look good in the off season. The blazer/zip/buckle combo is amazing. The “Chamoise” piece is something else and should not be described until worn in person. Yes the swimming trunks are short, but they are intended for a different lifestyle. The French stripes are aesthetically pleasing. We are fully committed to only the most current news, but there are two Junya/eye/CDG pieces from the beginning of 2008 mixed in, see if you can spot it.

Here are some new pieces from Red Wing Japan. We’ve also included some oldies but goodies. Classics never get old, especially when you revive them in dope colorways and materials. This 103 year old company rarely needs to update their designs, and I’m sure you could wear them for another century and still be fresh.

Artist iGoogle Museum At ZOZORESORT

Artist iGoogle Museum At ZOZORESORT

iGoogle is one of the best ways to organize and create a homepage. ZOZO recently re-launched their ZOZOGALLERY, with it they released, Artist iGoogle Museum, which is a collection of iGoogle themes to customize your homepage. The themes include work done my Nigo (Bathing Ape), Osamu Tezuka (Astro Boy) and Nobuhiko Kitamura (Hysteric Glamour) amongst others.

The Rugged Museum

The Rugged Museum

The Rugged Museum has updated with some new merchandise on their site. We also came across some dope picturesof their location, transporting you back in time to a place where everything was made of raw materials like iron and wood. Their inspiration again is the glory years of the 40’s and 50’s. Like in the case of Red Wing, we see models that have stood the test of time, and we can learn about other garments with humble military beginnings. It’s not all about MA-1s and M-65s here, we see a lot of Navy wear, Gentleman’s hunting pieces, and a lot of reference to Steve McQueen, a true OG. Steve can be seen wearing a variant of the MA-1 in “The Great Escape” and his cut-off raglan sweats. The boundaries between fashion and collector’s items have been rubbed out, and we take for granted the quality and style of pre-hiphop America. Check out pics of the the revival of the good old days after the jump.
