Much of the art direction and imagery for Prada’s 2008 Spring/Summer campaign was left in the hands of artist James Jean. His stunning sketches adorn a collection of womens handbags and form the backdrop for select Prada locations around the world. Among the pieces he created was a huge 200 foot long wallpaper scene for Prada’s Beverly Hills and Soho Epicenter Stores.

Despite holding a virtually non-existent presence in North America, Uniqlo has turned itself into a leading billion dollar low-cost clothing brand. In an interview with Uniqlo’s founder, Tadashi Yanai, the entrepreneurial mastermind outlines his goals of reaching the $10 billion USD/year sales mark and his unwillingness to pigeon-hole his management philosophy as any particular style but rather one that must be continually adapted to ensure success and efficiency. Uniqlo’s popularity can be largely associated with their commitment to creating quality and stylish garments at low prices and creating pieces that can easily be worn in different situations and settings. New for 2008, adidas Originals introduced the Celebrate Originality campaign. The by-product of this creative initiative is this latest art installation produced by Douglas Little and actor/writer/director Justin Theroux titled Sometimes Comes Mother, Sometimes Comes Wolf. The venue takes place in a reconstructed container to appear as an adidas Originals blue shoe box. With the creative care and direction left in the hands of Theroux and Little, the exhibition embodies the core values of adidas’ campaign of eliciting creative responses. The melange of personally owned items from the contemporary, to borrowed antiquities, creates a juxtaposition of the present and past items of pop-culture. The event tantalizes many senses and offers reflection through it’s thought provoking displays. Available on display from now until this Saturday.

A few months ago, Visvim founder Hiroki Nakamura previewed an upcoming sub-line of Visvim titled the Folk series. In recent memory, Nakamura has shed much light through interviews on his design ethos as well as his concept behind this Folk collection. Although not based entirely based around ecological factors, the Folk collection will utilize vegetable tanned leathers which offer uncompromised breathability and comfort unlike traditional leather materials. Also touched upon by Nakamura is the relationship of technology and environmental preservation. Although Visvim’s other sub-collection G-Line seemed to be deviating from the path which once made Visvim so popular, the Folk collection is much more a return to Visvim’s traditional roots. An interview with Honeyee can be seen here.
