“There might be less of it, but money can still be beautiful.”

The words of current Chanel frontman Karl Lagerfeld express his views on coin design as he took part in the minting of a coin celebrating the 125th anniversary of Gabrielle Chanel’s birth. In a limited collection of four coins, two gold and two silver, the coins feature a portrait of the founder of one of the fashion world’s biggest brands as well as a large 5 on the other side. The 5 references the coin’s monetary value of €5 EUR or $6.30 USD as well as a dual meaning referencing the famous Chanel No. 5 fragrance. Of the four coins, only 99 instances of the most valuable gold (5 ounces) coin will be produced with a price tag of €5,900 EUR (approximately $7,450 USD). At this time, all 99 coins have already been claimed.
