Asics Design Competition 2007 Winners
After deliberating over 654 submissions from 24 countries, two winning sandals were chosen for Asics’ 2007 Design Competition. The Grand Prix prize went to Julian Jaede from Germany with his “Summer Sandal” design while the runner-up Excellence prize was awarded to Marcial Ahsayane Montoya of Spain with his “4 Beach” design. Julian Jaede’s design incorporated the notion of branding extensively in the design of the sandal and even created a mock advertisement to play along with the design. The incorporation of a purist design with the branding of Asics ultimately paved the way to victory for Julian. Marcial Ahsayane Montoya used the theme of beach soccer/football as the basis of his winning design. Modeled to be an accompaniment on the beaches, the sandal was created to offer protection and performance benefits without removing the user from his interaction in the sand. The Grand Prix winner was afforded 5,000 Euros (approximately $6,830 USD) and a sample of his product while the Excellence winner took him 500 Euros (approximately $683 USD). Image: Sneaker Freaker
