Nike's Newest Ad Backs The Last-Place Marathon Runner
“You are not a runner. You are especially not a marathon runner. But at the end of this, you will be.”
In 2012, Nike teamed up with ad agency Wieden + Kennedy and director Lance Acord to launch an ad campaign dubbed ”Jogger“. The minute-long clip focuses on the idea that greatness rests in everybody and it is up to the individual to release their own inner excellence. Now in 2015, the brand has wrangled the team back together to release a follow up ad dubbed “Last”. The new commercial carries a similar point, albeit in a more lighthearted way, with Aretha Franklin’s track ”Every Little Bit Hurts” playing over the marathon stragglers. Set to begin airing in October, Nike once again successfully empowers those who need that little push of encouragement.
