After taking over the Highline Ballroom in New York City with Mountain Dew‘s Green Label, the next stop on our Green Label Live journey took us to Chicago. Despite temperatures on the south side of brick, West Coast representative Casey Veggies, native artists Mano & Holt, and party animals Rae Sremmurd packed out The MID in the city’s West Loop District. Chicago doesn’t exactly do fashionably late, and accordingly Veggies kicked off the festivities immediately to a full crowd, playing bangers like “Backflip” and “Everything Wavy” after bringing Rockie Fresh out for a few tracks. Chicago-based Mano & Holt (of Treated Crew) took over the boards after Veggies, playing healthy doses of hometown anthems by Kanye West and Chief Keef while somehow infusing current Atlanta jams by Gucci Mane and Future – close listeners may have even heard Sleigh Bells worked into the mix.

All this made the perfect drumroll for Rae Sremmurd as the final act. Everything you might’ve surmised about their live performances is true; Rae Sremmurd is live energy embodied: a sugar rush of blind confidence and unadulterated swag. Rapping seamlessly between your choice of hits – “We,” “No Flex Zone” and “No Type” amongst them – at no point did the hype subside, and the Tupelo, MS duo left the stage with as much vibrance as they took it. The show was definitely one to remember. Enjoy our recap of the show above, and be on the lookout for the next installment of Green Label Live coming to a city near you soon.
