Watch Kanye West Perform & Rant at Bonnaroo 2014

Following last week’s gig at 2014 Summer X Games in Austin, Texas, Kanye West headlined the opening night of the three-day Bonnaroo 2014 festival. The gig also marks Kanye’s first performance at the festival since 2008 when he showed up late and delivered an underwhelming set. The Chicago native addressed the incident:

“Last time before I got here they had ‘fuck Kanye’ on the port-a-potties. This time we’re going to piss on them,” he proclaimed to the audience, later pausing briefly during “Heartless” to demand, “Where the press at? Fuck the press!”

He took a more positive vibe introducing “Power”:

“I want y’all to know that anytime I’m in the studio, make a record, make a t-shirt, I give it everything I got. And when I talk that shit, it’s so you can talk that shit. If you’re a fan of me, you’re a fan of your motherfuckin’ self. You can go out and do anything.”

And it would not be a true Kanye show if there was no signature-style rant:

“I ain’t going after nobody on the radio. I’m goin’ after Shakespeare. Walt Disney. Mozart. Henry Ford. Howard Hughes. David Stern. Elon Musk. You can only achieve as high as your dreams.”

His set list was roughly the same as his multi-stadium ‘Yeezus’ U.S. tour including the face-obscuring mask, while the set itself didn’t contain the tour’s trademark ice mountain and circular video screen. As usual, fan-captured footage found its way to the digital sphere, showing Kanye blessing the crowd with a selection of some of his greatest hits.
