Volvo has unveiled the Concept Coupe, a design study for what the brand is calling its “next-generation P1800.” For those of you unfamiliar with the original P1800, it was a rakish coupe from the 1960s and early ’70s and is now a cult favorite among collectors. The P1800’s influence can be seen in the new Concept Coupe’s upright grille and strong shoulders. Inside, the designers have done away with as many of the buttons as possible, opting instead for a large touchscreen. The Concept Coupe boasts a hybrid powertrain consisting of a four cylinder gas engine paired with electric motors for the rear wheels. While the Concept Coupe is unlikely to become a production reality, expect the styling direction and technological innovations to feature in Volvo’s lineup in the years to come.
