shepard fairey rolling stone Shepherd Fairey for Rolling Stone

Shepard Fairey’s ubiquitous President Obama image has been given a face lift (sorry!) by Fairey himself for the latest cover of Rolling Stone magazine. The latest instalment of the bi-monthly magazine features an assessment of Obama’s first sixth months as President.

    @eryone but kronen…you’re al hacks! obviously you don’t know half a shit about art or art history. Shepard is crap, a good amount of his work stems from the wpa campaign in the 30’s, old communist propaganda, and art noveau style. 666 is dead on…Fairey is a plagiarist. The Giant campaign is SF was aiight but nothing new he get’s too much cred for wheat pasting (he’s not talented enough to do real grafiti)…look up a real artist like Robbie Canol he’s been doin’ this street propaganda thing for over 2 decades. (As a reference check out ODOG’s room in menace)

    @Karl Kronen

    wasn’t there a quote from banksy: “good artists copy, great artists steal”

    That’s bullshit Kronen, have you ever seen anything besides the Obama and Obey images? Growing up in Providence, I’m familiar with much of SF’s work, and let me tell you he is copying no one. He is very talented, much more so than those who criticize his success. That’s the funny thing about many artists, one can often stand there and say, “I could’ve done that.” But the thing is, you didn’t.

    I’d like to know who Shepard Fairey is coping? I think he’s a talented artist. He’s been doing this kind of art for decades now. It’s noting new. But now that he’s been in the public eye for creating what has become an iconic image you’re hatin?

    Please to explain? I’d like some comparisions, references and such. Facts, not your bullshit opinion please. Thanks.

    Shepard Fairey is a hack who copies the ideas of those much more talented than he.
