In a joining of East and West, Japanese animation studio Madhouse and Eagle Award winner Warren Ellis are joining forces with Marvel Comics to create some new anime themed versions of some of Marvel Super Heroes’ most iconic characters which span a four part series. Up to bat are trailers for Iron Man and Wolverine.

Marvel Entertainment Inc., has partnered with renowned Japanese animation studio Madhouse (Paprika, Tokyo Godfathers) and multiple-Eagle Award winner Warren Ellis to create four all new anime versions of classic Marvel Super Heroes. Get an exciting first glimpse of IRON MAN and WOLVERINE, two of the planned four series!

These Marvel Anime TV series are being created as a way of merging the beloved Marvel Super Heroes of western culture with the bold animation tradition of Japan. Of course Iron Man translates well to anime. But that isn’t Wolverine. That’s Vega (depending on your country). Lots of people have done the Nihonjin Logan without making him look J-pop with the asian payot and an eating disorder.

people, stop criticizing the whole wolverine in japan thing
i mean, he lived in japan for some time, got a wife there, and had a kid
so if anything they’re just telling the story of him while he was there

and if anything, the iron man anime looks weird, the guy looked like captain harlock for god’s sake, and the setting looks like it’s all in japan, where tony never really stayed

but regardless, they both look amazing

The Hulk/Wolverine & Hulk/Thor efforts were very respectable. Although Wolverine doesn’t look like the Wolverine we know, I am still withholding judgment until I see the whole thing.

I can appreciate a Japanese take on a character as Batman: Gotham Knight was brilliant.

The main thing for me is that the storyline is strong, the feeling of the character is true and the animation is tight. Looking forward to both.

NVM, that Wolverine looks cool, but reminds me nothing of the current Wolverine I am extremely familiar with.

Some of you fail to realize that Wolverine has an extensive Japanese history, so for him to have anything to do with Japan is not at all far fetched.

RAW ass iron man, not digging the premature bulimic wolverine looks nothing like him

the iron man one looks great but why does there Wolverine look more like a hairy Vega from street fighter IV. He looks like he weighs as much as the REAL Wolvie’s right arm. I didnt think it was possible to make Wolvie look gay but it looks like the did so perfectly

When did Wolverine grow a mullet? And I thought he was Canadian, not Japanese.

I can get with the ironman…but the wolverine looks terrible.

  23. Posted by:Vagrant on July 27, 2009 at 4:32 pm

I love madhouse, but what r they doing? This is “What if Wolverine and Ironman were japanese?

  24. Posted by:dan on July 27, 2009 at 3:50 pm

That Iron Man looked dope, but Wolverine looked retarded. Didn’t even look like Wolvie!

Not feeling it, especially the wolverine character it totally compromises the integrity of the character. In no way did I think wolverine when I saw it aside from the claws. There is something to be said about limiting some of the artists’ freedom with these characters because the popularity and integrity of these characters has to do with who they are known as and although I guess they are trying to do something new, this doesn’t work. You can’t really make another Wolverine just like there will be no other Jordan or Kobe, you just make a new character and do it well enough to be better than the previous one. It’s over fanciful and kinda ridiculous I used to do and think of shit like this when I was a kid.

Madhouse also did the recent “Hulk Vs.” titles with Wolverine and Thor. The animation was jizz-worthy. Anxiously awaitin these’uns

I like the Iron Man animation. I think one of the best cartoons was the Silver Surfer series that was shown on Fox a few years ago. That one was dope. Too bad it was canceled too early. Wish they would release that on DVD.
