Proving all the rumors correct, Nike SB hits us with breaking news that Eric Koston has officially joined the Nike SB Team. Adding another legendary skater to their already impressive roster makes for quite another bold move, following the unveiling of Stefan Janoski as the second signature sneaker endorser. We look forward to the many projects that will surely follow this news bit. Congrats to Eric Koston!

I definitely think that it’s a great move from a financial standpoint. Koston stands to make a ton of money from and for Nike, so both parties involved will win. Also, some of the original Koston shoes from his days on eS were straight-up Jordan rip-offs. So, even from a creative standpoint, the move still makes sense. He’s still on Girl, which is a part of the Crailtap family that owns Lakai, which means that he’s still cool with all of the folks over at Lakai.
For me, as long as Nike SB starts to step things up and comes out with an original shoe for Koston, then it’s definitely something to pay attention to. But if they simply re-brand some Blazers or some Dunks with a new colorway and call them the ‘Kostons’, then it will come off as nothing more than a wasted opportunity for both of them.

Koston owned a part of lakai and they have not been doing great since the economy fell…Rather than trying to help lakai and wait for things to get better he sold his shares of lakai then sold out to the highest bidder which was between Nike and Vans (Vans is also a huge corporate beast #2 Poser shoe IMO)…This year there will be some major shoe brands and skate brands go under…Nike is a major part of the problem…Call me fuckin gay or whatever you want, but the truth is that Nike forces you to buy so many of their shoes every season and small shops end up having to cancel orders from real skate shoe companies to give all their money to Nike…That is the truth and you cannot argue with that….The current trend will put out even more core skateshops out of business until the only place left to buy your skate shit is Sport’s Authority…That’s Fuckin Gay As HELL!!!!!!

Everyone google the Koston 2 that came out from es back in the 90’s in the bumble bee colorway. Strait fire, 2nd illest shoe next to the Koston 1, and we all skated ‘em back then. These SB’s are regardless gonna be rocked by numerous heads who never stepped on a skate, and it disrespects all of us who do. Bottom line, buy shit from companies owned and run by skateboarders, for skateboarders.
Koston is def a G, and he rips, we all know it. But jesus, Nike SB is all about cash in the end, and it takes business away from smaller companies that are in the business because they love it. 95% of you love the look and nothing else, and SB execs are singing on the way to the bank.

I love how little you shoe fiends know about the Business so allow me to say this. It’s called a salary cap kids. Yes that’s right, Just like Manny and Just like Michael and Just like TO they all deal with a salary cap. If you don’t know, a salary cap is what COMPANY like Dodgers Inc. are willing to pay that meets their budget their Fiscal or calendar year. Koston is one of the single most solid skaters in the world and I dare you to argue with me about that. Lakai is an amazing company but please keep this in mind. They are an imprint company or a sub company under DVS and should Lakai not have THE BUDGET to house it’s current teams salary then THEY (lakai) have to consider their own team and in turn DVS may decide to just drop lakai. Need I remind you of the whole Osiris/88 footwear blow up. So when they (lakai) said it was a mutual agreement then it means…..Koston has always had this option with SB and when you see how well Marc Johnson and Mike Capaldi are doing then you are going to see an increase in their salary as well. This good family is called budgeting. You can’t ask why Frost didn’t go to Vans if they didn’t have the budget because they got Olsen, why not Vox you ask…again they don’t have the money. Although it would be easy to say this is a sell out issue a better question would be, given our current economies will companies like Lakai and Vox still be around? Who are we really to say what is right for a man whom is a small business owner him self, has a wife and small child and dives head first into a culture an art and a way of life like skateboarding knowing that this may all go away with one wrong step off his board. How come none of you said that Howard and Carroll didn’t try harder to keep him….there is your question of the day and here is your answer key…MONEY! Class dismissed.

You guys need to get your facts right…. I presume most of the people on here don’t have a lot of knowledge when it comes to the skateboard world and the events that go on in it. Koston left Lakai because they were going to KICK OFF riders due to his PAYCHECK. Lakai was paying him a good amount and they couldn’t support their huge team along with his paycheck. So he bounced it to save them from kicking anyone off. Koston has loved nikes and has based his shoes off of nikes. So it only makes sense for him to be on NIKE. I hope he steers them back to what they once were…..

Well, for Koston, this is definitely a great move financially, but I don’t know; he doesn’t seem to have that Nike SB flow. When I heard he was going to Lakai way back, I was stoked because high of the Lakai team is made up of that LA flow, you know? Nike isn’t really for Koston, although I’m sure the first Koston x Nike designs are going to stolen off the shelves real quick.

How is Koston a sell out? He makes the Lakai vid, helps BLOW UP Lakai in Fully Flared and then creeps over to Nike.

Breaking news would be if Koston leaves the Crailtap family and joins Mystery boards.

Well Koston is a real Sneakerhead and he knows the history well, probly better than P-Rod, so it’s a good fit. Koston is a big enough name for Nike to give him lot of creative control. I expect to see SB’d out colorways of classic Nikes like the AM95 and the Air Command Force on a new sneaker that will resemble a more traditional skate shoe. Basically it’s gonna be awesome!

Ok cool. Hey NIKE maybe you should give the other guys a shot at a shoe deal? You can’t really say anybody who joins SB is a sell out because aside from the fact that more people buy, collect, trade, and/or never wear the shoes people actually skate in SB’s and they are really great skate shoes that are sold in any other normal local skate shop. I think maybe since NIKE SB is adding this dude this will lead to NIKE SB being seen a bit less as those sneakers hypebeast collect to show off and more of a skate brand which was their sole purpose until they realized all the crazyness occuring at Undefeated with the tedious days of kids camping out for their limited stuff and how much hype there company causes. This month’s releases and this addition to the Nike SB crew might help SB comeback after the lame releases from the past year.

Man, Nike SB has definitely been slacking in terms of their SB line.
Nothing really “original” comes outta the Nike SB camp anymore.
The style of shoe is always the same, just different material(s) and colorways.
Very boring and redundant if you ask me.

Step it up NIke you had a great creative mind-set with the life of the J’s.
Seems like all of the creative minds worked on the Jordan Brand.
Maybe they should get together with Nike SB to come up with “original” designs.
