this was kinda painful to watch at some points…
it feels like kanye isn’t that good at being a “storyteller” or improvising.. yeah, liked the 808s, itsa nice album, but this..
all i see right now is a man who just had a veery good and responsive backing band, they did a great job tryin to read and follow where Mr West wanted to go with this performance.. real good musicians. and the live-arrangements worked really nice.
    but kanye…
don get me wrong i like the man but his adlibs were kinda clumsy and lazy, so he just settled with refraining the lyric over and over again(for example love lockdown) and the reason for the autotune is that he actually cant sing.. his inability to hit the right notes especially in love lockdown was agonising..
the egotrippin, chris brown and OJ/MJ so amazing comments make it also look like that kanye runs out of good things to sing/talk about and starts to blurb out these little ideas of his that he hasn’t propably thinked thru.. it only makes it sound like he’s also like this michael jackson type of a character who’s out of touch wit reality..
actually the interesting part was in the beginning and good life when he just talked about stuff and was not trying too hard.
its an ok performance, but i hope he doesn’t have to make another performance where he pulls off more of these non -premeditated comments and adlibs.

It just doesn’t matter Kayne is Kayne. Original or not trend or not It is entertaining. I would say his music is simple, enjoyable and creative. Simple songs are good. Just look at the beatles, buddy holly, the clash, run dmc, Dylan… whether the auto tune is a Direct Daft punk influence or not doesn’t matter Because this is Kayne’s version. Nothing can be created that is totally unique. Good work Kayne.

Let’s take a moment from all the bickering, and take a look at the body of work that is 808s & heartbreak. The dude lost his mother & broke up with his girl in the same year. Let’s be honest and not act all like a bunch of socially indifferent hipsters just because this is hypebeast. We’ve all had losses and heartbreaks & granted we all have different ways of coping. As a man, it’s hard to deal with heartbreak being that it’s really difficult to break a mans heart. With that being said, I really enjoyed the storytellers & 808s. I take the album as a man trying something different as an outlet for his pain. Keep up the good work ‘ye i’m lookin forward to your next album & as for the people that say they aren’t feelin your shit, they are too. You know they listen lol.

Ive only got one issue with your post. it sounds like it was written by an angry 7 year old. one who goes online, and hoping that his favorite rapper reads something (which he wont, and if he did, your post is so lacking in any intelligence or real points, that hed probably make fun of you, and i know that really hurts your feelings…) that being said, as an active member of the music community for quite a while, I can tell you that 4/5 of my colleagues see the false assumed sense of ‘artistry.’ In my view (and its only an opinion, which will be a tad difficult for you to understand, i know…) The style implemented on this particular album, does NOT show any innovation. it shows a fear of dropping out of relevance. I respect him for following a creative career and I hope that my own success can be measured in the units that Kanye does. but as an album, and as a show, Kanye fell short and i just cant see any art through the thick impenetrable layer of trash. thank you for your minute

Everybody needs to chill…there are a lot of artist out there trying to make it in the hip hop world… and 90% of the suck ass… I went to the Little Wayne show and it was so bad that i thought i was being robed and fucked in the ass twice… I saw T.I. and he was so wack that i almost puke, he can even get to finish a whole song without loosing his breath. 808′s is an example of better things to come, music is evolving, fashion is evolving, art is always evolving, some of you stupid mothafuckers need to evolve too, pull up your wack ass baggy pants and tucked in your crooks and castles t-shirts and go out there get a real job, buy some LV if ya’ have the $$$ (i’m guessing that cha ass is broke) and live a life, no matter how much you hate or get back at me with some weak comment, hehehehehe, i’m just going to be chilling on my Benz pumping 808′s , Kanye will be adding numbers to his bank account, that fucked up dude that i forgot his stupid name will be trying hard to make a beat to Soulya Boy or whatever the fuck you write his wack ass name, and you won’t matter, realized this fucker, you don’t matter, you don’t matter, you are just one more in the bucket….

This was one of the best performances he’s done for this “newer album”
But anyways, i still like his style in choice of music for now.
Old Kanye was truly better, although the newer kanye will make things better for himself as his mother is being missed from him.

This isn’t about love no more as it is about hate. This is about celebrating true creativity. For artists and individuals who crave visionary perfection, Mr.West produced a real piece of art here. To some 808′s was hard to digest. You can’t deny a man his right to grow stylistically and furthermore you can’t remain completely ignorant to his message. Mr. West uses his art form as a vehicle for purpose, respect that. I believed this to be one of his best presentations. Consider yourself fortunate to be allowed such self expression at this level. He could have easily squandered his talents like so many others. As an artist myself, this work inspires me to achieve greatness. It was artwork that I created which alloted me the esteemed opportunity to meet Mr. West. at a performance. True visionary. From one creator to another it was a real honor. In conclusion, no genius has ever been understood in his own time. From Warhol to Kubrick. Einstien to Dali. This is the future. Thank you Mr. West, that was hardcore.

Post Script… Artists don’t try to be artists. You either are or not. We grind to perfect our crafts.

Yo Kanye gave an incredible show! one of the best hip hop performers besides Tech N9ne, Common, and N.E.R.D. Its suppose to be more than just looking at a rapper performing, some of the best so called artists give terrible shows…Lil Wayne…show is garbage, rappers think they are too cool to get on stage and go all out. This show was full of emotion and made it easy for his audience to connect to what he was doing!

side bar: TTS in the building Kansas City all day! lol

Don’t try so hard to defend someone, it just makes you look weak. Obviously you like Kanye West, and that is cool, you have every right too. But Kanye is a big boy, and if he wanted to, he can defend himself.

And if you didn’t realize, being an “Artist” lends itself to criticism. It is only ones opinion. Some are going to like and some are going to dislike. You, obviously, are fanatical. While I think that is hilarious and sad at the same time, I also respect it as it is your choice to be as such.

As for myself, I think that Mr. West is amazing as far as his production skills go. But, having said that, he is the most overrated lyricist in what is deemed to be mainstream hip-hop today. Plus, his ego makes him a walking joke. To me, it does seem that he tries way too hard to be at the forefront of what he deems to be fashion.

Whatever. He is making his money and has a legion of fans that would probably kill if he gave the word. While I am laying here, writing out a comment to someone who seems to be obsessed with a man who has a mullet and wears sunglasses where ever he is, no matter the time or place.

KANYE I KNOW YOUR GOING TO READ THIS, SO HEAR ME OUT!

FUCK all these haters always criticizing your talent, music, and image! You keep pushing yourself and continue to do new things. I understand where you come from, if you always put your heart and soul into all your music its impossible for you to come out with another “College Dropout”, “Late Registration” or “Graduation.’ People need to understand that in life you have to keep moving forward! That is the beauty of music, you get to try new things.
All you haters out there that keep bitching about “Why don’t you go back to your roots, Kanye?” Its because that is what artist do when current shit doesn’t workout. From the looks of it, I think Kanye is doing just fine with “808s and Heartbreak” considering the fact that it still went platinum.

    “Tylah B”
I have two things to say. First off, you said kanye uses the same “copy & paste garageband beats” Well Tylah I would love to see you not only produce a good beat? Yet alone produce 4 complete ALBUMS! Kanye simply gets bored and tries something new for himself, and created “808s and Heartbreak.” Did you ever think “LESS is MORE” Tylah B?, if you think “fuck 808s”, why even bother watching the show?! I suggest you turn on your Garageband instead, and create your own infamous “copy & paste” beats that will never get radio play!

    “Noah”
Oh Noah, yes the “autotune” may not be the most innovating thing out, but its something new for Kanye. Let me enlighten you, take Picasso for instance, I’m sure you know nothing about art. So here is a lil art history for you. Picasso was already creating great REALISTIC paintings at the age of 15. Later in his career he became an “Abstract” painter. Everyone criticized him for that. So I ask you “Noah” just because someone switches up their style, does that not make them great? Thank you, no need to answer!

    “What”
Your probably bald, or you don’t have style to pull off any haircut!

    “Dreamcrusher”
You said “wack show. and even wacker songs- 808’s was NOT up 2 par…” So I ask you, is there another album out there that can compare to “808s and Heartbreak”? I don’t think so! Therefore, in my book, its a successful album, because its ONE OF A KIND!

    “Bro”
“Hip Hop is fake” ? First off, Kanye is beyond being a rapper! He’s a rapper, artist, producer, and a singer all in one. Therefore you can’t compare him to just “HIP HOP”! Yes, he’s no Biggie and TuPac or whatever garbage underground artist you listen to. Kanye is on another level beyond just HIP HOP!

    “rumel”
“Kanye, you are not Radiohead and never will be.” Well Rumel, please pull your radio-HEAD out of your ass! Kanye never said he was BETTER, or wanting to be radiohead. As a matter of fact, he approached Thom Yorke’s dumbass, as a fan! Kanye said, “I am a big fan, and admire your work!” But apparently Thom Yorke was to cracked out to say anything back to Kanye. In my book, I would of done the same thing and sat the fuck down too!

    “internet”
Don’t worry, Kanye will come out with something better than before like he always does!

    “joseph”
Apparently you have never been great at anything. You don’t know how incredibly hard someone has to work to be GREAT! I myself work extremely hard at what I do, therefore I consider myself GREAT! You don’t see other great artists saying Kanye is NOT great? So just shut the fuck up and wipe your drool off of Kanye’s Louis Vuitton Kicks! Obviously you think he’s GREAT at something – Fashion!

    “joe”
I’m sorry to say this but if you don’t “try sooooo hard to be an “artist.”: YOU DON’T SURVIVE as an artist! I don’t think he TRIES to be artist, he is an artist, and he promotes himself constantly like every artist should! I hate people that criticize Kanye for trying so hard, or whining at award shows. I have a saying that goes “A baby that doesn’t cry, DOESN’T EAT”!! No one hands you things in life, you have to take it. If you worked half as hard as Kanye does, you would kill yourself you didn’t get what you deserve.

I enjoy Kanyes music but I cant help but feel hes a dude that tries sooooo hard to be an “artist.” Dont get me wrong, it takes a lot to get out there, push your music and get on that stage but it just feels like hes trying too hard to prove to the audience that he is someone that he probably isnt. Hes a musician and its as simple as that. No need to push the “artist” image that pushes the boundaries.

And yes, im getting tired of that auto-tune. I dont mind the voice alterations but auto-tune really helps to adjust vocals to make it sound a lot better than it is. Ive heard Kanye live and hes pretty damn bad.

Didn’t enjoy the performance. I actually changed the channel
when it was on. 808 is Ye’s attempt at being something he’s not. Don’t
get me wrong there are some great some on the cd, but 2/3
of it is trash. Then for him to sit there after the song and brag
about how great he is. Lmao. WTF? The show was unbearable.

P.S. the outfit was amazing though. Did you see the shoes?
Ye and LV showed their ass with them.

I liked it but want Kanye to come back to rap. 808′s was decent but now it’s time to go back to rap. It’s not like I’m asking for another Illmatic or anything, I just want Kanye to leave the singing to someone else.

ye’s going over all your heads with this… 808s is minimalism, and its art… everything else out there is overproduced… there’s way more art in creating simple beats that convey emotion like every got damn track on 808s, and NO ONE else in the industry has taken as big a risk as ye did with 808s. Anything avant-garde is never fully appreciated when it is first created, but I wouldn’t expect the average hypebeast-reading “critic” to understand that.

I found this show very interesting. I feel kanye on his thoughts because many of times I said the same things. I can see him trying to grow as an artist. Who knows Kanye could be one of the greats for his ability to rap about anything and produce beats. I really have never heard a kanye song where he didn’t bring some heat.

I luv Kanye. I think he’s the perfect person to do “Storytellers.” Yes, he can be long winded & annoying, but if you watched “Amazing” you would see that he’s coming into a new level of awareness & maturity. Anyone who had a chance to see his “Life & Rhymes” on MTV knows that this is where he really shines.

I’m with Fade on this one. People are expecting upbeat songs with no real connection other than Kanye’s clever wordplay. The real depth to 808s and Heartbreak is the story it’s weaving together. It has an agenda.

I cant believe I just sat through 2 of those. To be honest, Ye’s been growing on me. However, these melodies have such an amateur aesthetic to them. When my 18 yo brother comes to my studio, i turn on autotune and he sings into it, and does the same shit that Ye does it littereally sounds the same. he jokingly does these annoying little adlibs and one gets the sense that hes amazed that something hes singing can actually be on key. I was going to say it may be innovative but at this point using autotune is not only NOT innovative, but its one of the biggest attempts at following trends Ive ever seen. I wouldnt mind him having his little fun in the studio and Ill never knock someone for making music that they themselves like because thats what the mission is. BUT, to release such complete and utter trash (minus heartless, i think there are great melodic qualities in that song, not to mention the track is off the chain), and then talk about how awesome he is and how other artists should be like him, just sounds so annoyingly rediculous.

Unlike “Tylah B” I found this show very interesting. You actually see a different side of Kanye West that you hardly see.
