Microsoft Announces New AI-Driven Surface Pro and Surface Laptop
The brand claims its new devices are 58% faster than the latest MacBook Air with an M3 processor. Is the Apple vs. Microsoft battle back on?
Microsoft is gearing up for a busy week and has just announced Copilot+ PC, its latest category of AI-driven personal computers powered by Snapdragon’s X Series chips. It also announced an update to its Surface line, with an all-new Surface Laptop and a Surface Pro tablet launching soon it is calling its “fastest, most intelligent Windows PCs ever.”
It’s been over a decade since Microsoft debuted its “2-in-1” PC, Surface, a laptop-tablet hybrid that can be used in either configuration depending on your mood or needs. The brand has comfortably come to own this market niche and its new Surface Pro is an evolution from its predecessors in several ways. For starters, it’s 90% faster than the Surface Pro 9, a huge leap in terms of performance that’s possible thanks to the Snapdragon X Elite and Snapdragon X Plus processors Microsoft has chosen to use. The new device features a super bright 13-inch display that supports connection to three external 4K displays, two super fast USB 4 ports, and Wi-Fi 7 for rapid connectivity. On board are Surface’s “best cameras” yet with a 10MP Ultra HD camera on the back that that can capture 4K video, with an ultra-wide, quad-HD selfie camera on the front of the device.
Surface Laptop, Microsoft’s range of more traditional laptop – save for the fact they’re touchscreen, something even Apple has yet to do – has been “redesigned from the inside out” for a much more modern, cool looking computer. It features a 120Hz screen with HDR technology that produces its most vibrant array of colors on a Surface device to date, with Dolby Vision IQ and Adaptive color technology. The Surface Laptop is arriving in two screen size options, 13.8-inch and and a 15-inch, with a choice of four finishes for the body including ‘Platinum’, ‘Black’, ‘Dune’ and ‘Sapphire’.
Both of these new devices are promising to deliver speeds never seen before on a Surface laptop, and Microsoft is even claiming they outperform Apple’s latest MacBook Air (the world’s best selling laptop) with its M3 processor that. Microsoft has even completely reengineered Windows 11 to get the most out of its new devices and Snapdragon’s X Series chips.
The new Microsoft Surface Pro and Surface Laptop can be pre-ordered today directly through Microsoft, starting at £1,049 GBP / $999 USD. They arrive at select Microsoft retailers starting June 18.
