The Koi Klub initiative includes a wide range of lifestyle offerings from a free magazine to sneaker collaborations with Asics and other art ventures. At the recent Bread & Butter Barcelona trade show, Koi Klub founder Yoske Nishiumi debuted an intricate and detailed transformation sculpture of a symbolic koi fish into an Asics sneaker. Asics affiliate Onitsuka Tiger teamed up with Berlin’s Koi Klub to create this latest collection of sneakers. Based on a varsity jacket, the sneakers incorporate varsity specific materials such as leather, wool and chenille. The heels each possess symbolic images. The left heel sports the Japanese characters 古意 (koi), which symbolizes ancient ways. The right heel features 02 which reflects the year Koi Klub was created and the number of Koi Klub x Onitsuka collaborations to date. 550 pairs of each color will be available.
