Drake and Chris Brown Face $5 Million Copyright Lawsuit Over "No Guidance"
The song allegedly closely mirrors the 2016 track “I Got It” by Tykeiya Dore and Marc Stephens.
Artists Tykeiya Dore and Marc Stephens have launched a $5 million copyright lawsuit against Drake and Chris Brown, alleging their 2019 hit “No Guidance” infringes on their 2016 track “I Got It.”
The lawsuit claims substantial similarities between the songs, including chord progressions, tempo, and melodic structure. The plaintiffs specifically highlight the parallel use of phrases “I got it” and “You got it” in the respective tracks.
The case extends beyond the primary artists, naming several collaborators including producers Noah “40” Shebib, Vinylz, J-Louis, and Teddy Walton, alongside songwriters Velous, Nija Charles and Michee Lebrun. RCA Records and the associated music publishers are also included in the suit.
According to the filing, the plaintiffs trace potential connections between their work and the “No Guidance” team, suggesting the track reached the defendants through industry connections. The lawsuit also challenges YouTube’s handling of a related copyright claim, alleging improper treatment of Stephens’ channel following his takedown request.
This legal action follows a previous copyright dispute over “No Guidance” from 2021, which was ultimately withdrawn in 2022.
