It’s finally Dapper Dan’s time in the spotlight. After years behind the scenes crafting avant-garde goods repurposed from Gucci threads and more, the Harlem-based designer and the Italian label are now officially partners. And he’s forged ahead assuredly during his time, collaborating with the brand on a collection and a fashion book, as well as spearheading a new diversity and inclusivity initiative after Gucci landed in a turtleneck controversy earlier this year. The initial diversity plan has since been released, outlining a three-tiered cultural awareness project that includes millions of dollars in financial aid via its “Changemakers Fund” and an employee-wide volunteer program. Among his recent feats, Dapper Dan was named to Business of Fashion’s list of influential people for 2019 and landed a cover on the seventh annual #BoF500 print edition.
