A Bathing Ape, also known as BAPE, is a Japanese streetwear brand founded in 1993 by NIGO. It encompasses men’s, women’s and children’s clothing, as well as a variety of accessories and lifestyle items. In 2011, it was announced that Hong Kong-based fashion conglomerate I.T Group purchased the brand for $2.8 million USD, and by 2013 NIGO had stepped down from the brand’s creative helm.

Latest Collections
Japanese hip-hop group Teriyaki Boyz are well on their way to international recognition. Their relationships with A Bathing Ape founder and resident DJ, Nigo has landed them cross-Pacific collaborations with the likes of Pharrell Williams and Busta Rhymes on their latest album “Zock On”. To commemorate the CD’s release, a package was put together including both the CD and A Bathing Ape t-shirt featuring the CD album’s artwork.

As previously mentioned, the World Wide Bape Heads Show which will have performances by Kanye West, N.E.R.D., Nigo and the Teriyaki Boyz will be taking place in Hong Kong on April 10th. Here is a look at the commercial for the upcoming show which is an neat animation with all the performers drawn in a Bape style.

This week, A Bathing Ape launched four new Stripe Bapestas. The color scheme of this pack revolves around gold and silver which a lot of footwear brands have used this Spring. Of course, you still have the “Bape-ness” with the stripe and polka dot pattern on the patent leather. Colorways include silver/gold, gold/silver, black/gold and black/silver. To celebrate the 15th anniversary of A Bathing Ape, Nigo has decided to host the “World Wide Bape Heads Show” in Hong Kong. You know you’re going to have a killer show when you have musicians including Kanye West, Pharrell’s N.E.R.D, and Nigo’s Teriyaki Boyz all performing on one stage. Responsible for the setup of this event are the folks at Silly Thing. The show will take place on April 10th while the tickets will be on sale starting March 17th. Definitely not a event to miss out on.

If there’s anything that signifies the changing aesthetics of Bape, its this weekends releases at Bape Hong Kong. The collection is supremely subdued with some simple pieces signifying an apparent movement. Bape in simple terms is growing up. The inclusion of blazers/sports coats further cement this argument. Also releasing this Saturday, March 8th, is the collection of Spongebob x Bape plush toys and charms.

The 104th result of a Bape and Casio G-Shock collaboration will release later this month. The DW-6900 model has a black body with yellow accents forming the text while the chronometer dials are filled in with red and green. Available later this month March 20th, at Bape Taipei.

New for 2008 is this cute Plush Toy by Bathing Ape. This soft, cuddly and furry toy is known as Milo, a character often used on many of Bape’s products such as the recent collaboration with Nickelodeon for a Milo x Spongebob Squarepants toy. The brands, A Bathing Ape and WTAPS, are two of the top streetwear brands in the Japanese scene. Together they have created a series of tees for Nigo’s Favorite Shop which is an exclusive Bape store for members only. The three t-shirts include the Ruined tee, the Ruined Girl tee, and the Ursus t-shirt. These tees are probably sold out already at the Nigo’s Favorite Shop so if they are, you can get them at Cliffedge.
A new A Bathing Ape’s Baby Milo brand/character can be seen on an upcoming Nintendo DS Lite concept. This is a follow-up on yesterday’s Honeyee x Fragment x NDS which seems to sourced out some of Japan’s most popular labels on a Nintendo DS Lite project. Two styles can be seen with a gold/white design and a white/color design, both featuring the heads of Mario, Baby Milo and Mario-related power-ups. The white version will be a Nigo’s Favorite Shop exclusive, with a slated release date for April 1st.
World Renowned Hip Hop/R&B artist Pharrell Williams and Japan’s music producer Nigo from APE SOUNDS are hosting Star Bape Search which is an audition to find the next female R & B artist. The audition will consist of several stages and will be broadcast on the NIGOLDENEYE show through MTV. The winner of the auction will get One Million Yen and also their own debut CD with APE SOUNDS. For more information, you can head to the Star Bape Search site. It’s in Japanese though but if you’re entering this contest, you’ll probably need to know Japanese anyway.
