Vertical has debuted the official trailer for Lords of War, the anticipated crime thriller sequel to the 2005 cinematic classic Lord of War. The release marks Nicolas Cage’s return as arms dealer Yuri Orlov, starring opposite Bill Skarsgård as his ruthless, estranged son.

Written and directed by Andrew Niccol, who helmed the original feature, the sequel follows Orlov as he discovers his illegitimate son, Anton. Operating as a ruthless mercenary mastermind, Anton seeks to outdo his father by building a private army and profiting off geopolitical warfare in the Middle East. The revelation sparks an escalating father-son rivalry with the international weapons market hanging in the balance, co-starring Laura Harrier, Sylvia Hoeks, and Greg Tarzan Davis.

“As a storyteller, I always felt there was so much more to explore with the ‘merchant of death’ that is Nicolas Cage’s charming devil, Yuri Orlov,” Niccol said. “This latest chapter gave me the chance to introduce his ultimate rival: his illegitimate son, Anton — illegitimate in every sense of the word — played by the equally roguish Bill Skarsgård. Set against the largely unseen world of mercenaries, the film quickly reveals that Anton isn’t out to right his father’s wrongs; he’s out to top them.” Produced by Vendôme Pictures and Saturn Films, Cage serves as the sole returning cast member from the original ensemble.

Lords of War will release in theaters nationwide on January 22, 2027.
