Mr. Bailey Launches Terracotta Collection That's Built For The Future
Built to last for generations, the shoes come with an interchangeable Vibram sole that can be renewed and reworn.
After six years of exploring craft, longevity and modular construction in partnership with HLT+ and Vibram, London-based designer and founder of CONCEPT(K) Mr. Bailey has released its newest collection, Terracotta.
Inspired by the fractured geometry of dried earth, Terracotta focuses on longevity by reinterpreting repairable footwear. Within the soles of each shoe lie three distinctive layers built with the purpose of renewing the components that are exposed to the most use and naturally wear down over time. Central to Mr. Bailey’s mission is extending the lifespan of every creation, making each shoe pass through generations and accumulate years of wear.
Maintaining durability is integral to their design, preserving elements that give the shoes an independent uniqueness and mold with the wearer over time. Breaking down the internal design construction of the sole includes a permanent structural outsole, an EVA compression layer that provides ultimate cushioning, and a replaceable Vibram ground layer that forms the external contact surface of the shoe. Every pair is provided with an additional set of replacement Vibram ground components, alongside benefits including access to sole repair services that help the shoes perform at their optimal capacity.
The first Terracotta collection includes three key silhouettes. Functional and distinctive in design, the Hiker is a mid-cut style that features Loop Back lacing that wraps around metal hardware to maintain tension around the foot when in use, inspired by early ski and Alpine footwear. The Terracotta Derby references traditional Alpine Haferlschuh through asymmetric side-lacing, while the Mule takes a very simplistic approach with a slip-on function. Each one is crafted using a leather upper as well as the highly anticipated, interchangeable sole system. Putting durability at the forefront to allow this collection to last a lifetime.
