In an era defined by collaboration, the partnerships that truly resonate feel inevitable. norda and Black Diamond are exactly that: two brands united by a shared obsession with performance, coming together through the all-new norda 000 silhouette to redefine what alpine exploration can look like.

norda, the performance footwear brand built on advanced material innovation, and Black Diamond Equipment, a global leader in mountain sports equipment and apparel, have entered a long-term partnership, bringing together their respective expertise in footwear and mountain equipment. Anchored in an all-new set of trail-ready products, the collection draws on both brands’ experience to create the highest-quality gear possible, combining advanced technology with decades of mountain expertise.

Hypebeast wanted to learn more about the collaboration, speaking with Adam John, norda’s Creative Director, and Dan Rowe, Special Projects and Design Lead at Black Diamond, about how the partnership began and how it ultimately came to life.

What sparked the initial ideas for this collaboration — where did this idea come from?

Dan Rowe: The origins of this partnership began at the athlete level, with admiration for Joe Grant in the way he chooses to interact with trails. While he has a decorated past in traditional racing, his movement through the mountains has evolved into something more than numbers and data. Following his journey offers a rare lens into the spirit that drives us outside in the first place, and Black Diamond is a rare brand that caters to the spirited yet serious.

How did both Norda and Black Diamond’s DNA show up in the design?

Adam John: We built this partnership from the ground up—quite literally. Rather than take an existing shoe model and co-brand it, we created a brand-new shoe that dictated the type of movement we wanted the partnership to convey. The result is the norda x Black Diamond 000, a shoe for long days that can handle highly variable and uneven terrain. Black Diamond’s equipment followed suit: complementary upgrades to existing and new products that support these kinds of journeys.

What are some of the shared philosophies and crossovers between the brands?

DR: There was an immediate mutual respect between the two design teams and the way each approaches product, but finding the spirit of the collaboration took time and flowed organically. Both brands share a deep connection to the mountains and a belief in creating products that are purposeful, considered, and without anything superfluous. Joe was an important part of that connection, not only as the link between the brands, but through his approach to the mountains and his respect for the beauty of running in natural places.

Were there any technical details, materials, or design elements that laid the groundwork for the collaboration?

AJ: We create the only trail shoes with purposefully-engineered usage of Dyneema® (the world’s strongest fiber). Thus, from a material standpoint, the goal was to ensure that every technical piece conveyed this ethos of durability. The Distance Pack and Mini Mission Duffel are constructed from a material called Challenge Sailcloth, the Black Diamond analog to Dyneema®. We incorporated the heritage idea through details such as embroidering the Distance Packs and Mini Mission Duffels, while expressing forward-looking innovation through subtle yet never-before-seen details like anodization and laser etching on the trekking poles.

The collection delivers a fully integrated kit for efficient alpine movement, with several pieces informed by Black Diamond and norda mountain runner Joe Grant. At its core is the all-new norda 000, designed for high-mountain running, alongside a selection of Black Diamond essentials reimagined with cutting-edge materials, including the Distance 15 Pack, Distance Carbon Z FKT Poles, Mini Mission Duffle 30L, Miniwire Carabiner, T-Shirt, and Cap. The collection is finished in a palette of obsidian and moonstone, accented by soft pink kunzite, drawing inspiration from the minerals found throughout mountain environments.

The inaugural norda x Black Diamond collection debuted at Sanglard Sports in Chamonix, France, and is available now at nordarun.com and blackdiamondequipment.com.
