20th Century Studios has officially unveiled the trailer for Whalefall, an aquatic survival thriller arriving exclusively in theaters this fall. The film is directed by Brian Duffield (No One Will Save You) from a screenplay co-written with Daniel Kraus, adapting Kraus’s 2023 novel of the same name.
The narrative centers on Jay Gardiner (Austin Abrams), who ventures off the central coast of California on a scuba dive to locate the remains of his deceased father (Josh Brolin). Mid-dive, Jay is swallowed whole by a massive sperm whale. Trapped inside the creature with a single hour of oxygen remaining, he must rely on the survival wisdom passed down by his father to attempt an escape.
The feature stars Abrams and Brolin alongside Elisabeth Shue, Jane Levy, John Ortiz, and Emily Rudd. The release marks a busy autumn for Abrams, who also stars in Zach Cregger’s upcoming Resident Evil adaptation hitting theaters in September.
