As Morocco prepares to co-host the 2030 FIFA World Cup alongside Spain and Portugal, the nation has unveiled plans for the monumental Grand Stade Hassan II. Situated in Benslimane, just outside of Casablanca, this state-of-the-art venue is poised to become the largest football stadium in the world. With an unprecedented seating capacity of 115,000, the mega-structure is designed to serve as a premier centerpiece for the global tournament, showcasing Morocco’s ambitious vision for the future of international sports infrastructure and solidifying its presence on the world stage.

The design, spearheaded by design firm Populous, in collaboration with Paris-based architects Oualalou + Choi, draws deep inspiration from rich regional traditions. The stadium’s core aesthetic is rooted in the concept of the moussem, a traditional Moroccan social and cultural gathering. This cultural touchstone is translated into a sweeping, grand tent-like roof structure constructed from a colossal aluminum lattice. The draping canopy not only provides vital shade and shelter but also creates a striking visual silhouette that honors local heritage while utilizing cutting-edge contemporary engineering.

Beyond the pitch, the Grand Stade Hassan II integrates a wide range of facilities, including training centers, aquatic complexes, hotels, retail and leisure spaces. This multi‑use approach ensures the stadium remains active long after the World Cup, positioning it as a nucleus for urban development and cultural exchange.
