For its inaugural Nike SB collaboration, South Carolina skate shop Bluetile is delivering far more than just a fresh colorway. Looking well beyond surface-level aesthetics, the Bluetile x Nike SB Dunk Low “Monarch Butterfly” uses the insect’s legendary migration as a profound symbol of movement, identity, and the search for home. Connecting the butterfly’s path to the real-life experiences of Mexican immigrants, the release is a heartfelt tribute to the diverse individuals who bring color to and uplift Bluetile’s local skate community.
The deeply personal project is anchored by the story of Irving, a Bluetile team member who made his own journey from Veracruz, Mexico, to become an integral part of the South Carolina skate scene. Translating this narrative into footwear, the Dunk Low features a dark black base layered with textured leather panels. Vibrant “Campfire Orange” details and rich “Marina” blue Swooshes mirror the iconic wings of the Monarch while also reflecting the sunset hues of Columbia, South Carolina, firmly establishing a sense of place.
To further elevate the storytelling, the shoe incorporates several thoughtful design touches. Unique fuzzy laces add a tactile layer to the concept, while custom butterfly-themed heel embroidery and graphic insoles round out the tribute. The result is a highly detailed, community-driven collaboration where every element feels earned rather than merely decorative.
The Bluetile x Nike SB Dunk Low “Monarch Butterfly” will be released via a special staggered schedule. The drop kicks off with an in-store launch on May 2, 2026, at Bluetile’s Columbia location, followed by a Charleston release on May 3. A wider online release will then take place on May 4 through Bluetile’s official website. Retail is set at $135 USD, though a broader Nike SNKRS release has yet to be confirmed.
