Valve – the gaming giant behind the world’s most popular PC gaming platform, Steam, as well as “AAA” franchises like Counter-Strike – has just announced three new devices: Steam Controller, Steam Machine, and Steam Frame. Throughout the year, each of the newly introduced products has donethe rounds in online rumor mills, with speculation rife in gaming circles about exactly what Valve would launch – and when.

Today, we finally have the answer: The new hardware trio is officially coming to market in “early 2026” – though specific launch dates for each model, as well as pricing, is still to be confirmed.

According to Valve, the new products have been designed to seamlessly integrate into its ecosystem and are optimized for users with existing Steam game libraries. They will complement the Steam Deck – the company’s groundbreaking Linux-powered handheld PC from 2022 – and, like it, will operate as “open platforms” to ensure full compatibility for users whose game libraries reside on alternative platforms, like the Epic Games Store, GOG and others.

In terms of design and functionality, the upcoming Steam Controller looks quite different to the average controller: It features innovative dual trackpads – just like the ones found on the Steam Deck – that should make for a hybrid playing experience, bringing the feel of PC gaming into the console world and giving users the best of both in a single form factor. It’s also set to ship with the Steam Controller Puck, a small wireless transmitter that promises a low-latency connection and doubles up as a charger (it can also be used over Bluetooth or wired over USB). The Steam Controller features thumbsticks built with magnetic TMR technology (so “stick drift” won’t be an issue), as well as high-definition rumble and a built-in, haptically activated gyroscope for motion controls.

Meanwhile, the Steam Machine is set to deliver “over six times the horsepower” of the Steam Deck, allowing gamers to play the most-demanding titles with ease. A 6-inch cube, it’s powered by Valve’s gaming-centric operating system SteamOS and sort of looks like an Xbox Series X that’s been cut in half. It includes a microSD card slot, Gigabit Ethernet port, DisplayPort 1.4, HDMI 2.0, a single USB-C port, and four USB-A ports. It features a “semi-custom” AMD CPU and GPU that Valve describes as “desktop class”, and will launch with either 512 GB or 2 TB of storage.

Lastly, the Steam Frame marks Valve’s latest entry into the VR space. Unlike its Valve Index from 2019, the new Steam Frame is a standalone all-in-one system powered by a Snapdragon processor and running SteamOS like the Steam Deck and Steam Machine. Valve says that all Steam games – not just VR games – can be played on the headset, which it describes as a “comfortable, wireless, lightweight [...] new way to experience your entire Steam library.”

Gabe Newell, Valve Corporation’s co-founder and president,  said of today’s announcement: “We’ve been super happy with the success of Steam Deck and PC gamers have continued asking for even more ways to play all the great titles in their Steam libraries. Our work over the years on other hardware and even more importantly on SteamOS has enabled Steam Controller, Steam Machine, and Steam Frame to do just that.”

While the brand added in a press release: “Our goal is to start shipping in early 2026.”
