Celebrated performance artist Marina Abramović is making a return to the Web3 space with her latest four-piece NFT collection, Marina Abramović Element (MAE). Created in partnership with digital art platform TAEX, the first drop of the collection will go live on Ethereum this May.

Rooted in Legend, a fictional story written by Abramović and developed by TAEX, the project delves into her artistic philosophy and journey through three primary NFT drops – Art, Life and Marina Abramović Method – immersing audiences in different aspects of her creative practice. Tokens within each installment vary in rarity, ranging from still images, looped animations and works that move with moon cycles in real-time, spanning 960 unique digital artworks in total.

The MAE collection culminates in its fourth and final stage, The Great Mint, which is set to release in November 2025. The drop will offer participants the opportunity to mint the rarest and most valuable video work in the series, performed by Abramović’s avatar.

“Working today with technology and creating my own avatar is a way to develop a new relationship between the performer and the public,” the artist shared in a recent statement. “The public’s interaction provides the process through which immateriality can be transformed into energy.”

Since its founding in 2022 – just one year after the infamous market crash – TAEX witnessed the turbulent landscape and subsequent steady maturation of digital art, and as a digital gallery and co-producer of artworks, has adjusted its tools accordingly. Speaking to The Art Newspaper about the volatility of the NFT market, the company noted: “A lot of projects got filtered out and did not survive the market crash, which gave way to a now more stable digital art market which includes NFTs as a tool to showcase, collect and engage with artistic narratives.”

A preview of Marina Abramović Element will be exhibited at Moco Museum in London on April 8, 2025, ahead of the inaugural drop in May. Head to TAEX’s page for more updates.
