Devin Malik has finally made his long-form debut. The Top Dawg Entertainment affiliate has unleashed his first studio record, an impressive 15-track offering dubbed DEADSTOCK.

A predominately solo effort, Malik flexes his versatility as both a producer and rapper, expanding on the skills he showcased on ScHoolboy Q‘s BLUE LIPS and in the album’s run of singles.

The first track “BANG YOUR HEAD” – the only one with a feature from none other than ScHoolboy Q himself – is a journey in and of itself, spinning between different distorted beats and flows. This sets up listeners for what the rest of the album, what Malik refers to as a multifaceted “audible horror film,” has in store: a dynamic medley of sonic influences and experimentation.

Malik is also able to flex his lyricism on the LP, infusing each cut with some witty or relatable wordplay.

“Late night, in the city, know it’s happening / I became the man with the plans with the actions / All my b*tches locked in, no distractions / America’s Next Top get me top (vroom), public bathroom,” he spits on the “GEEKERTOWN” chorus.

“gotta be creative it but gotta slap too,” Malik said of his process on Instagram. It’s safe to say that DEADSTOCK did just that.
