2021 may be almost a third of the way over, but New Balance is seemingly continuing its Year of the Ox celebrations all year long: the 991 has just released in a Zodiac-inspired colorway. Joining special takes on the 2002R and the 920, this 991 opts for a cattle-like two-tone brown colorway with some special details.

Uppers are made of a chocolate brown mesh that’s overlaid on the top half with similar tones of suede and leather. Moving down, an even darker brown is used on the suede mudguard. Hits of gold detailing are present on the midfoot’s N logo and the tongue tag, with a brown 991 graphic gracing the heel. If you look inside the collar, you’ll see a festive red tag on the inside of the tongue and a CNY spellout on the insole. On the shoe’s bottom half, two-tone ABZORB midsoles combine with durable rubber outsoles to complete the look by mixing cushioning and support.

The New Balance 991 “Year of the Ox” is available now at retailers like Oneness. Its MSRP is set at a beefy $265 USD, reflective of its premium construction — though somewhat surprising for a style that doesn’t mention a made in the UK construction.
