Independent Swiss watchmaker AMIDA has unveiled the Digitrend OSII Black, a striking timepiece designed to resume the legacy of the brand’s iconic 1976 space-age creation. Spearheaded by co-founder and creative director Matthieu Allègre, the watch represents what the brand terms a “Historical Correction,” retrieving a retro-futuristic mid-century aesthetic that was abandoned decades ago and updating it with modern technological capabilities.
The Digitrend OSII Black translates this concept of evolution into a mesmerizing structural reality. Replacing the traditional metal shell of its predecessor is a complex sapphire hood machined from a single block, which acts as a transparent shield allowing light to completely submerge the internal movement from all angles. This transparency reveals a newly designed, DLC-coated 316L stainless steel internal framework integrated directly into the core of AMIDA’s proprietary jumping-hour module.
Utilizing Light Reflecting Display (LRD) prism technology to display a vertical jumping hour and scrolling minutes, the watch introduces a fully luminescent interface for the first time. Ambient light entering the sapphire hood charges the BGW9 Super-LumiNova® indices, igniting a vivid “Nocturnal Form” that ensures exceptional readability in the dark without compromising the silhouette’s clean, driver-style aesthetic.
Beneath its avant-garde exterior, the watch is driven by an automatic in-house jumping-hour module built upon a Soprod Newton P024 base caliber, operating at a 28,800 VPH with a 38-hour power reserve. The 39.6mm x 39mm case dimension boasts surprisingly ergonomic wearability due to its compact lug-to-lug dimensions and offers a water resistance of 50 meters.
