Copenhagen-based design purveyor Georg Jensen is reintroducing two mid-century pitchers designed by Danish sculptor and designer Henning Koppel.

Originally crafted in 1962 and 1975, respectively, the reproduction of Koppel’s Pitcher 02 and Pitcher 03 are made in mirror-polished stainless steel for the first time in the new release. To achieve the fluid, sculptural silhouette, the updated editions require a process that involves hours of hand-finishing and polishing. Juxtaposed with the industrial strength of steel, the final result’s organic, liquid-like quality echoes the Space Age/Mid-Century sensibilities of the original period. While the pitchers are indeed from the archives, the designs maintain their strong futurian feel, even today.

Koppel’s collaboration with Georg Jensen spanned from 1945 to 1981, during which he produced distinctive modern homewares informed by his hand-sketches.  A trained sculptor, he would begin with drawings and plaster prototypes before modeling his designs in silver. According to the brand, Koppel’s meticulous design process, often involving unconventional proportions, would ensue in numerous iterations before landing on the right variant. This process of trial and refinement reflects the spirit of experimentation that shaped the Georg Jensen House, where artists were invited to challenge traditional perceptions of silver and other materials.

Henning Koppel’s Pitcher 02 and Pitcher 03 are available now via Georg Jensen. Stay tuned to Hypebeast for the latest design insights.
