Keshi's 'Requiem' Explores His Artistic Evolution

Requiem marks a profound new chapter for Casey Luong, better known as Keshi. After the worldwide success of his 2022 debut album Gabriel, the artist opted to deliver a more introspective and experimental journey, delving into the nuances of vocal tones, lyricism and the raw artistry of performance.

In a recent conversation with HBX as part of his merch launch, Keshi shared that he’s adopting a new mindset towards his craft. “I’m starting to treat my body as a medium to create art, and seeing it that way, I think, is a lot healthier,” he explained. This new approach allows the art to sometimes precede his own evolving tastes, acknowledging that appreciation for a creation might come with time. For him, Requiem is more than just an emotional reflection — it’s a documentary of his creative evolution.

To commemorate his success, Keshi is throwing it back with a vinyl release of his debut EP THE REAPER. The LP is pressed on classic black vinyl and housed in a standard jacket, and features all four of the original tracks.

“I always think that [Requiem and Gabriel are] not supposed to necessarily be connected or intertwined, like once the album’s done, you close the cover on that book and you move on to the next thing, he said.” Ahead of the Requiem merch launch at the HBX, he sat down to discuss the album’s genesis, his evolving personal style, and the intriguing duality between his public persona, Keshi, and his private self, Casey.
