Following its 2021 revival to mark the 25th anniversary of the Nike Air Griffey Max 1, one of its original variants, the “Freshwater” colorway, is brought back for another release this year. Prior to 2021, the shoe was released to the public in 2016, the year that Ken Griffey Jr. was inducted into the Hall of Fame. The shoe is designed to mimic the former Seattle Mariners team colors with an upper that is constructed out of a synthetic base that is drenched in its titular shared. Premium nubuck and smooth leather materials outline the overlays in black, contrasting the teal design while the Swooshes are accented in clean white. Red embroidered Swooshes add another detail to the heel while the shoe sits at a wavy midsole and visible Air cushioning. Griffey’s No. 24 is outlined on the ankle strap for another nod to his career as a Mariner. The shoe, which was originally released in 1996, is slated to release later this year.
