Gio Ponti’s Iconic Dezza Armchair Returns in a Limited Edition by Poltrona Frau

Italian furniture brand Poltrona Frau has unveiled a limited-edition release of Gio Ponti’s iconic Dezza armchair to celebrate the iconic piece’s 60th anniversary.

As one of the most influential architects and designers of the Italian post-war era, Ponti left a significant impact across various fields — from architecture, ceramics to interior and product design. His work evolved from Art Deco and classical influences to embrace Rationalism and the Modern Movement. Among his many achievements, Ponti designed the iconic Pirelli skyscraper – one of Milan’s most prestigious landmarks – and played a key role in establishing the prominent design award Compasso d’Oro.

Designed in 1965, the Dezza armchair was the first product to represent Poltrona Frau’s new direction following its relocation to Tolentino in 1962. This special edition features a previously unseen design on the Pelle Frau® ColorSphere Impact Less leather upholstery.

The new limited-edition armchair is rendered in elegant shades of Panna and Iris, evoking the joyful interiors Ponti created for the Hotel Parco dei Principi in Sorrento. The upholstery pattern includes a reproduction of a previously unpublished illustration by Ponti, which consists of 26 stylized hands, each uniquely designed and with its own identity and name.

Limited to 60 examples, each armchair is individually numbered with an emgraced metal tag on the back. The Dezza Limited Edition armchairs are avaiable to order from Poltrona Frau’s webstore until April 1, 2025.
