A24 has debuted the official trailer for David Lowery’s Mother Mary, starring Anne Hathaway and Michaela Coel in the lead roles.
The “psychosexual pop thriller” sees Hathaway as iconic pop star Mother Mary and Coel as her estranged best friend and former costume designer, Sam Anselm. On the eve of Mother Mary’s comeback performance, she meets with Sam to ask for a dress — but it’s evidently more than that. “There may only be one of us left standing when this is over,” Sam tells Mary, who replies, “I know.”
Joining Hathaway and Coel in the cast are Hunter Schafer, Atheena Frizzell, Kaia Gerber, Jessica Brown Findlay, Alba Baptista, Isaura Barbé-Brown, with Sian Clifford and FKA Twigs. Hathaway performs original music for the film, written and produced by Jack Antonoff, Charli XCX and Twigs.
